Context
Monitoring and evaluation teams work with SPSS surveys, performance measurement frameworks and Power BI models, with sensitive data that must not leave the workstation. DataStudio answers that constraint: a desktop analysis workbench, entirely offline, that turns those files into analyses, reports and dashboards with no server or external service.
Challenge
Giving non-statistician teams the power of an analysis tool with no network dependency: reading specialised formats (SPSS, Power BI), auditing a performance measurement framework with explicit rules rather than AI, and producing shareable deliverables from a plain workstation.
Approach
- 01Single-window desktop application (Python, Tkinter), 100% offline: no data leaves the workstation, no external service called.
- 02Reading of specialised formats: SPSS surveys (.sav) with variable and value labels, Excel and CSV, Power BI models (.pbix) unified into a star schema towards Excel or Access.
- 03PMF audit engine (results-based management) built on explicit rules and statistics, without AI: every finding is traceable.
- 04Ready-to-share outputs: PDF country sheets, Word reports, Excel workbooks, self-contained HTML dashboards with embedded charts, readable offline.
- 05Turnkey distribution: standalone Windows executable and macOS application, with no Python installation for the user.
Results
Workbench delivered in version 4.10 and distributed as a standalone executable. Around 8,100 lines of Python in five modules, with a business core (PMF audit, Power BI, PDF sheets) separated from the interface and testable in isolation.
